Target employee captures the moment he ran believing the shooter was in store

A viral video posted online showing the reaction of Target employees to an alleged Illinois store shooting has been viewed more than 8 million times.

TikTok user and Target employee @_odeis_ posted the video, which can be seen here, on August 10, and begins with workers sitting on the floor of an aisle, tucked up against the tracks.

“Call the police,” someone shouted. “Can someone call the police,” they added.

The workers then ran together to the cash register, while the individual check-in entered the key code to unlock it. “Come on, come on,” he yelled at them as they entered the room.

Although little information was provided in the video regarding the incident, many speculated that it occurred in a location in Pennsylvania. However, Odei later confirmed that it was in fact a store in Crestwood Target, a suburb of Chicago.

“I’ll try to do this quickly, but it happened in Chicago. It didn’t happen in Pennsylvania. Let me clarify this,” he said in a follow-up video posted to his account. .

In Pennsylvania, a shooting at a Target store left one dead and one injured just three days ago.

In the same video, Odei recounted what happened, confirming that no one was shot and injured. “I was in front. I was going in front ten minutes before closing and we had to have a drink, pay for it and leave. But all of a sudden we hear these three workers, and they’re like, ‘gun! There is a weapon! Get off! “In my head, I’m like ‘okay, this can be like mace fire, it can be like 1 on 1, or it can be anything.”

He added that they were seated near the 10th register, which was relatively far from the individuals. “When I looked up, there was a guy in the window who got kicked. The guy was thrown to the ground. He was blowing himself up. And that’s when they got it. pulled out their weapons, but no one was shot. Let me clarify this. No one got shot.

“And so, there were maybe 15 people behind me. Girl, I did it. I ran, I sprinted, I opened this door, I put this code, I don’t know not how I remembered it, but I put this code in. everyone walked in and then we called the cops. We just called them back. “

“They got there in eight minutes. People got away. Slow cops **. We were in the shopping areas, so usually there are cops driving around but not on this day, even on this day. ‘there was a shooting like two hours before in the place next to us, “he added.

“I don’t know, but no one got shot. No one was hurt. We’re all fine. It was just a scary experience **.”

Odei also responded to criticism for filming a video instead of calling the police, explaining that people were already on the phone to them when he filmed the clip.

Objective confirmed at News week that there had been a physical fight in the store but that no weapons were involved and that there were no injuries. Target also added that law enforcement had handled the altercation.

This isn’t the first time that a TikTok video has captured initial reactions to an alleged shootout. In early July, the responses of two teenagers to a carnival shooting went viral, after one of them appeared nonchalant about the ordeal during filming, giving much thought to the apparent attitude towards the shootings. in the USA.

News week contacted Odei and the Crestwood Police Department for comment.
