Man faces 880 years in prison in Sac County child molestation case

A man faces 880 years in prison after being convicted of 41 counts of child molestation and exploitation, authorities said.

Michael Leonard had a 16-year history of luring young children into his home and molesting them, according to a press release that announced the jury’s verdict.

Prosecutors said several of the victims were between the ages of 8 and 13, and Leonard met many of them at children’s events and places he visited frequently.

His conviction includes crimes against 12 victims, according to the press release.

In addition to the physical crimes, prosecutors said Leonard also communicated with minors for unlawful purposes, spoke inappropriately about sex to children, and attempted to make an inappropriate video filming a child.

Prosecutors say Leonard was eventually arrested when someone told law enforcement he was trying to make the video.

“Leonard has prior convictions for felony and misdemeanor annoying or molesting a child,” the statement said.

Judging is set for 9 a.m. on April 1.
