Ibram X. Kendi signs development agreement with Boat Rocker and launches production company

Boat Rocker, the entertainment company behind American Rust, Dino Ranch, and Billie Eilish: The world is a bit hazy, has entered into a multi-gender development agreement with Dr Ibram X. Kendi, the author and esteemed scholar behind How to be anti-racist. The deal will help launch bestselling author’s new production shingle, Maroon Visions, with support from Boat Rocker, and develop projects with the company’s scripted, unscripted, and children and family divisions.

A new Creative Director will be hired to oversee the creative affairs of Maroon Visions alongside Kendi.

Kendi is the winning author of the National Book Award of Stamped from the start, and five of his books, including How to be anti-racist, were the # 1 New York Times bestsellers. Kendi is Andrew W. Mellon Professor of the Humanities and Founding Director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research. He is a contributing writer for The Atlantic, a contributor to CBS News Racial Justice and the host of the new podcast Be anti-racist with Ibram X. Kendi by Pushkin Industries and iHeartMedia. His books Stamped from the start; Anti-racist baby; and Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You are currently adapted as film and television projects by Netflix.

Boat Rocker is behind a growing number of scripted, unscripted, and children’s and family productions, including American rust for Showtime, Invasion, dear … and Billie Eilish: The world is a bit hazy, everything for Apple TV +, Big show for TBS, and Dino Ranch for Disney +.

According to Kendi, Maroon Visions is named after the former slaves of African descent who formed islands of free communities amid vast seas of slavery in the Americas. The company believes that a truly free human community is within reach if humans can boldly imagine it. Building on Kendi’s written work and her film and television projects in production, Maroon Visions aims to produce content that helps the national and global community escape the shackles of racism, inequality and social injustice.

Kendi is replaced by WME, Ayesha Pande Literary and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.
