Destiny: The Winx Saga returns for a second season on Netflix, slated to arrive in 2022. Here’s everything we know so far about Destiny: A Winx Saga season 2, including new cast members and news that filming has begun.
Destiny: The Winx Saga is a Netflix Original teen fantasy drama series based on the hugely popular Winx Club cartoon series.
Created by Brian Young (who will return for Season 2), directing duties have been split between three directors, Lisa James Larsson, Hannah Quinn and Stephen Woolfenden. The series is a collaboration between Archery Pictures, Rainbow SpA and Young Blood Productions.
Destiny: The Winx Saga season 2 at Netflix’s Geeked Week
Among the first looks revealed during Netflix’s Geeked Week was the first look at earth fairy Flora, played by Paulina Chávez.
We have both a first look image and a first look clip of the new fairy.
Also, while we didn’t get an exact release date, we did get a release window with Destiny: The Winx Saga season 2 is coming to Netflix globally in fall 2022.
Netflix’s Geeked account lists the second season for fall (i.e. between September 23 and December 21).
HAS Destiny: The Winx Saga renewed for a second season?
Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed February 2021
We reported in June 2020 that Destiny: The Winx Saga had been renewed alongside ozark and warrior nun.
It wasn’t until February 2021 that Netflix revealed through their Twitter accounts that Destiny: The Winx Saga will return for a second season!
BREAKING FAIRY NEWS… Fate: The Winx Saga will be back for a second season!✨
– Netflix UK and Ireland (@NetflixUK) February 18, 2021
A Season 2 announcement video has also been posted on YouTube to further confirm the news.
Speaking on the renewal, Brian Young, who is the showrunner, had the following to say about the renewal:
“The six episodes of the first season have only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies that inhabit it.
As Bloom’s story continues to evolve, I can’t wait for you to learn even more about Aisha, Stella, Terra, and Musa!
And you never know who might show up at Alféa next season…”
Since its release on Christmas Day, Bridgerton has been firmly seated in the top spot on television in several parts of the world, most notably in the United States. The series to finally topple period drama was Destiny: The Winx Saga January 23. It should be noted that the Original’s reign at the top only lasted eight days, before being dethroned by Bridgerton.
What about the controversy over the series?
Naturally, with a franchise as popular as the Winx Club, any live-action adaptation will come under scrutiny.
Aside from the quality of the show, the biggest controversy the show faced concerned casting decisions. In particular, the character of Musa, whose character design was inspired by Chinese-American actress Lucy Lui, was not cast by an actress of Asian descent; instead, Emily Applebaum was cast.
Fans had other issues with Flora’s character being dropped in favor of Terra Harvey’s Eliot Salt character. Although Flora’s potential second season debut has been teased by Salt (and we can confirm that will be the case shortly).
Arguably, these “controversies” were far from sufficient reason to cancel the series.
New characters for Fate: The Winx Saga season 2
We are happy to confirm that there are at least three new characters being introduced in Season 2 and in July 2021 we got confirmation on who will be playing them.
- Flora will be played by Paulina Chávez – Described as an Earth fairy like her cousin Terra, having an easy-going nature but hiding a dark secret. They choose a Hispanic woman for this role.
- Sebastian will be played by Éanna Hardwick – Featured in World of Winx season 2, Sebastian will apparently make his way to the Netflix series. Described as a student with a brilliant mind but with questionable morals.
- Gray will be played by Brandon Grace – We couldn’t find a reference to Gray (correct us if we’re wrong) in the original anime series. This character is defined as a transgender man portrayed as a specialist with a secret (everyone is hiding secrets in Season 2!). Also, he is about to have a relationship with Aisha in season 2 which he gets with his “charismatic charms”.
Additional casting is still ongoing through August 2021. MovieExtras.ie notes that they are looking for identical twins to star in Season 2.
We spoke to a fan account for the series that could not recall identical twins in the source material.
IMDb lists Jayden Revri (seen in The Lodge and Dead Boy Detectives) to play Devin in Season 2.
Where is Destiny: The Winx Saga season 2 in production?
Before filming was confirmed to begin, we learned that production was scheduled to take place between mid-July 2021 and November 2021, with filming once again taking place in Dublin, Ireland.
Season 2 should consist of 8 episodes against 6 seen in season 1.
On July 20, 2021, we got confirmation that filming had started alongside the new cast. Filming for Season 2 is once again taking place in County Wicklow, Ireland.
We also know that some filming was done in Avoca, Ireland.
Filming continued through August 2021, with many cast members posting videos and photos of their time on set.
FateWinxNews on Twitter did a great job of archiving cast and crew footage throughout production.

Filming wrapped in November 2021, according to posts on various actors’ social media posts. Specifically, it looks like filming wrapped on November 30, 2021.
Sallie Aprahamian has been confirmed to direct 2 episodes of the new season. The British director has worked on titles like Peaches, Real man, Teachers, and lip service.
We received an update from producer Brian Young on January 22, 2022:
“We are still working on it, and we will be working on it for a while!
I know it seems to take forever, but a show like #FateTheWinxSaga has a complicated and intense post-production process. Fortunately, we have an amazing team of editors, vfx artists, composers, music supervisors, sound designers, colorists and more to support us. And rest assured, everyone is working hard every day to make sure we bring you the best possible version of the show.
The good news is that it’s all going well and we’re excited for you to see it when it’s ready. And believe me, as soon as I’m allowed to share ANYTHING I want!!! »
When can we expect to see Destiny: The Winx Saga season 2 on Netflix?
It could be a long time before the series returns to Netflix. Filming for the series took place in September 2019, before wrapping after a few months on December 13, 2019. It then took thirteen months before the series debuted.
Given the production schedule outlined above, our best guess is that it will release in mid to late 2022.
As we now know thanks to Geeked Week, the The show is set to return in fall 2022. We’ll let you know when we know more.
What to expect from the second season of Destiny: The Winx Saga?
Bloom’s powers grow stronger
In her dramatic fight with the Scorched, Bloom was able to grow her own wings, becoming the first fairy to do so in many years. Using her wings allows Bloom to harness even more powerful magic, especially ancient magic that not even the staff at Alfea College can harness.
With her new powers unlocked, Bloom will only get stronger. The source of Bloom’s power is the Dragon Flame, and if she can control it, she may be able to take out the Burns for good.
It may take Bloom a while to learn how to control her powers, as the first time she activated her wings, she quickly collapsed from exhaustion using them.
Will other fairies have wings?
With Bloom the first to grow wings, it won’t be long before we see the other fairies learn to do the same. Besides being an extremely powerful fairy, we still don’t know why her wings activated, but if she manages to find the key to the ability, other fairies may be able to learn ancient magic.
Rosalind takes over Alfea College
With the help of the Queen of Solaria, Rosalind killed Farah Dowling. With her return as Headmistress, it’s clear she’ll use her authority to further push Bloom to unlock more of her powers. With an impending war looming over Alfea, Rosalind will likely use this opportunity to push the students to become even stronger and eventually turn them into soldiers who will fight in the coming war.
