April 25, 2022, London – Blackbird plc (AIM:BIRD; OTCQX:BBRDF), the technology licensor, developer and vendor of market-leading cloud-native video editing platform, Blackbird, today announces the release of selected data from the recent study of the company’s video industry that finds the cloud is impacting production, but the vast majority of workflows remain inefficient. However, natively optimized production tools deliver transformative efficiency.

The study found that cloud production and remote editing are now integral to content creation, used by 90% of responding video professionals. Yet the impact on workflows risks being compromised by the widespread use of inefficient methods of accessing content remotely that are not cloud-native. This is one of the main conclusions of a new study carried out by Blackbird, in partnership with Caretta Searchbased on a global survey of video editors, producers, managers and prosumers.

Research reveals:

  • 90% of video professionals have adopted cloud production and remote editing in their workflows, with collaborative work and customer review and approval being the top use cases.

  • But most remote editing is still implemented using old-fashioned, inefficient and slow workflows – 65% of users moving original high-resolution media files over the internet to support workflows remote mounting.

  • Many others move proxy files or remotely revert to an editing workstation in a facility, a pattern that wastes expensive resources.

  • 27% of remote editors are using a cloud-native browser-based production platform like Blackbird – twice as popular as using a PC over IP to connect to a cloud-based editing workstation.

  • Cloud workflows were already used by 60% of users before the Covid-19 pandemic, but have grown significantly as a result: 84% of users have seen cloud production and remote editing increase in response , and 58% expect it to grow further as business picks up. Normal.

  • The main benefits of cloud production identified by users are faster production workflows, the freedom to work from anywhere at any time, and cost savings compared to using traditional tools.

Robert Ambrose, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Caretta Research, said: “Based on our experience talking to hundreds of industry professionals, we see a clear shift from cloud-enabled to cloud-native workflows. This study shows just that – work flexibility remotely has unlocked new value and cost savings, but has often been compromised by adapting legacy ways of working We are now seeing the adoption of cloud-optimized workflows and tools, avoiding the hassle of cost and security of constantly moving content.

Blackbird plc CEO Ian McDonough added: “We’re proud that Blackbird is once again able to bring much-needed, independently verified data to the market regarding cloud production adoption, following our recent sustainability and total cost of ownership papers. .

“This study is illuminating in that we can see that cloud tools are widely used and having an impact, but real progress is hindered by the deployment of inefficient, non-cloud-native workflows. These inefficiencies may be more obvious in speed, cost and flexibility which From the data we have collected, also happen to be the most important factors in any cloud workflow. The encouraging news is that cloud-native technologies Highly optimized, energy and carbon efficient solutions exist to solve these problems.”
